A Capital Region remodeler with roots in a Delmar garage

Bennett Contracting handles kitchen remodeling in Albany, NY and across the Capital Region from its offices, showroom and warehouse at 693 South Pearl Street. The company traces back to 1915, when Dan Bennett opened a plumbing shop in a rented garage in Delmar. Today it is a full-service remodeler with more than 80 employees.

Design moved in-house in 2016, when Bennett also became a dealer of cabinets and countertops. Designers, project managers, carpenters and trades now work inside one company, so the team that plans your kitchen is the team that builds it. Estimates come from experienced professionals, not commission-driven salespeople.

Kitchen Remodeling

In-house designers plan layout, cabinetry, countertops, lighting and appliances, then Bennett's own carpenters and trades build it. Older Capital Region homes are a specialty, from Victorian kitchens in Schenectady to lake-view kitchens in Saratoga. Its kitchen and bath business grew 1000% after the 1984 move to Albany.

Bathroom Remodeling

Full bathroom renovations with tile, vanities, shower enclosures, water-saving fixtures and aging-in-place planning. Bennett's bathrooms have won a Qualified Remodeler Master Design Silver Prize in 2026 for a $75,000 to $100,000 bath, and recent jobs include Delmar, Slingerlands and Saratoga Springs.

Additions and Whole-Home Remodeling

Primary suite additions, family rooms, in-law spaces, expanded kitchens and multi-room remodels, with walls moved and structure reinforced where older homes need it. Project managers run each phase, from permitting to the final walkthrough. Bennett won CRBRA's Best Addition award in 2025.

Windows, Doors and Decks

Replacement windows, entry and patio doors, siding, decks, porches and seasonal rooms. Bennett's vinyl windows are made in the Northeast from American-made parts and carry a lifetime warranty, and installers are trained employees, not piece-rate subcontractors.

A third-generation family business on South Pearl Street

Dan Bennett opened a plumbing shop in a rented garage in Delmar in 1915. After World War II his sons-in-law grew it into DA Bennett Plumbing & Heating.

In the late 1970s grandson Greg Jackson and his friend Paul Gutman started an insulation business, which became Bennett Contracting, Inc. in 1984 and moved to 693 South Pearl Street in Albany. In 2019 Andrew Gutman, now President, and Kevin Gutman, Vice President, became the owners. Andrew calls it a 100-plus-year tradition of quality and integrity.

I love my new deck! Brandon did a wonderful job. He came up with new ideas that are perfect. He reported each day on what he accomplished and what his plan for the next day would be. He was friendly and professional and cleaned up every night before leaving. The deck was completely start to finish in 1 week. Excellent work!

Amazing work! They replaced every window in our house (28) in about 7 days. Crew was very respectful of our home and always cleaned up when they were finished for the day.

We worked with Bennett to install an egress in our basement. Dave and Joe were excellent. They more than exceeded our expectations for how good something like this could look.

Albany kitchen remodel questions for Bennett

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. Bennett's FAQ invites homeowners to contact the office for a free consultation, and its project pages describe no-pressure consultations led by experienced professionals rather than commission-driven sales. You can call (518) 462-6731 or send a project inquiry with photos or plans attached.

Who designs my kitchen?

Bennett brought design in-house in 2016 and became a dealer of cabinets and countertops at the same time. Its FAQ says a quality kitchen contractor should offer an NKBA certified designer with full CAD drawings, architectural plans when structure changes, lighting design and a full line of appliances with installation.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Bennett Contracting offers financing options through a trusted lending partner to help make larger projects more manageable. The company treats financing as a convenience, not a sales tool, and the team will walk you through the options if it helps line up your project timing with your budget.

Will my kitchen remodel need a permit?

Many projects do, depending on the scope and the municipality. Bennett advises you early in planning and handles the permitting steps as part of the process when they are required. Permitting and scheduling are a set phase before construction, so the project is compliant with local codes before work starts.

Can you work on an older Capital Region home?

Yes. Bennett lists deep experience in older Capital Region homes, where walls may need to move, structure may need reinforcing and layouts often date from a different era. Its portfolio includes a Victorian kitchen in Schenectady and a retro 1950s bathroom in Albany updated without losing its character.
